Recently (about a three months or so), 'Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service' has begun to "act up", in that it'll enter a running state and cause my Network Connection to dropout. It happens every hour on the hour unless I reboot.I can't think of anything in particular that I've installed discovefy would cause the WinHTTP service to start up.I do have an Event ID 8033 (The browser has forced an election on network DeviceNetBT_Tcpip_{415181BF-834F-4187-9739-DE4CEE0A0162} because a master browser was stopped.).
That appears to occur about six seconds prior to 'The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the running state.', at which point Network (or at least Internet) Connection is dropped.I see where I can disable WinHTTP, but that some apps use it to open ports.
Since I don't know which apps are using WinHTTP.it would be unwise for me to kill it.So, any idea how to figure out what's calling WinHTTP.any ideas why WinHTTP would cause the internet to dropout? It runs as a service on local computers as well as on network servers. Autoproxy makes it easier for WinHTTP applications to configure necessary proxy settings.
This feature takes away the responsibility of knowing proxy settings from the end user. Step 1Right-click on "Computer" or "My Computer," and then select "Manage." This opens the Computer Management Console.
Step 2Click on "Services and Applications." Step 3Click on "Services" from the "Services and Applications" tree. You now have three open windows inside the Computer Management Console. Step 4Locate "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" in the list in the center window. The list includes the services available on the local computer and is in alphabetical order.
Step 5Right-click on WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service, and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. This opens the service's Properties window. Step 6Go to the "General" tab, and under "Service Status," click on the "Stop" button. Click on "Apply." Eervice stops the service within servics current Windows session. Step 7Click on the "Startup Type" combo box, select "Disabled," and click on "OK" to keep the service from starting automatically when you start Windows. Tips & Warnings By default, this service doesn't start in a standard Windows installation.

Tonight when D3 crashed I went poking about in the Windows event viewer to see if I could find anything. I sorted my Application log to find all of the D3 crashes (8 so far on the new computer) and noted down the times that they crashed.
I then looked through the other logs (Security, System, Application) to see if there was anything else unusual happening at that time. Lo and behold, in the System log I noticed there was a service that was auto-starting itself just before each of these crashes: The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the running state. I did a quick search on the web, which established that this service is not required, and disabled it in the service manager. I'll update this thread in a couple of weeks to report back on if this solved my freezes or not.
I suppose I could put this in the tech support forums but no-one actually reads them do they? EDIT: I also did some searches to make sure this wasn't linked to the windows error reporting software and that didn't turn up anything so fingers crossed. Hopefully it fixes stooped issues. I started it, stopped it on mine many times and haven't crashed playing D3. It's suppose to just start and stop if no proxy servers are detected and really shouldn't crash D3.
What errors are you getting. 3007 to the log in screen or just process crashes? This service is used by Windows to determine whether or not you are using a "proxy server" for internet or not and provides settings for programs and other services. Most people don't use a proxy server and if you don't know what proxy server is, I can almost guarantee you don't.
This service can be disabled in Windows, it's not necessary. But it's also unlikely to cause an issue if you are not using a proxy server. OP, does your ISP require web proxy auto discovery service service entered the stopped state proxy server to be setup for you to get internet?
Edit - now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if D3 sets up some settings to be used with this service and perhaps OP may have stumbled upon a possible DC-related issue. I'll have to dig into this one. Nice work OP. I don't know what the cause for the crash is, Seervice had 2 game freezes in the last 2 days (I usually experience 1 radnom per 2-3 months) and I play a lot. Both were in safer zones and none of them were recorded in the Event log, simply because the game just froze and I went and killed the process, so I can start the game and re-log in quickly.
The first time was when I clicked on the WP for Festering Woods right after I started new solo game, second one was just as I was walking towards an exit from a dungeon in A2.
I have no explanation yet, what causes these crashes as they are so random an unexpected on my end. I hope that solved your issues and you never have to experience it again, as it can be a heart stopper if you freeze in enteered bad spot. I really don't see how a WinHTTP Proxy service can interrupt your gaming experience, but maybe you should put it in the bug report section along with the log file, so Dev's can research it. 08/14/2013 07:32 AMPosted by silentkillerI really don't see how a WinHTTP Proxy service can interrupt your gaming experience, but maybe you should put it in the bug report section along with the log file, so Dev's can research it.
I didn't think so either, but I was on TechNet today and found some threads relating to this service restarting itself and causing regular disconnects (not related to games). Some things mentioned were DNS Proxying, bad gateway addresses and bad drivers. OP, I agree with silentkiller, make a post to support as a possible bug and they will research it. 08/14/2013 09:44 AMPosted by LordCaricOP, I agree with silentkiller, make a post to support as a possible bug and they will research it.
Yes I will do. I just thought I'd collect a little more info before doing so (ie. see if it appears to have made a diff). Update. Further information on this thread can be found here: https://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9679137867#1 TLDR: This was not the problem. Unfortunately, you weeb say in the other discovfry what the problem really was, or why you were able to rule out the http proxy service-related process from being the cause.
I have been following this thread avidly, since I also experience random client crashes (but usually when there's a wizard in the party and a great deal of visual spam taking place.) My crashes also happen near or going through doorways or zoning spots (although I've never had one using a WP yet.) Can you please share a little more information about the conclusions you have now come to?
Thanks in advance, Galx My diablo used to crash every few days or week. but it havnt crash for 4 months. What i did is . reinstall window 4 months ago.
(from windows7 64bit to 32bit) I used to keep trace of all event logs for along time and think it is just a waste of time. the tip is backup your window after fresh install so you can rollback one every year.
